Job Title General Laborer (Packing)
Department Operations – Manufacturing
Location DeForest, Wisconsin, USA
Reports to Production Supervisor
Hours of Work Shift work, able to work overtime and weekends as required

PRIMARY FOCUS:

The responsibility of a General Laborer (Packing) is to work as part of a team to ensure that quality potatoes are packed into boxes as per LPC spec.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Visually checks packaged potatoes in accordance with quality standards, and eliminates packages with any damaged or unacceptable potatoes.
• Reports excessive product damage to the Machine Operator/Production Supervisor.
• Assembles an adequate supply of cardboard boxes for usage during each packaging run.
• Packs bags of potatoes neatly into boxes; removing bags with packaging defects (open bags, no date printed).
• Sorts and neatly stacks extra cardboard boxes/bags leftover from a packaging run by size and types.
• Inform the plant supervisor or quality control of all quality issues immediately.
• Maintains all working areas by keeping all areas clean and organized while working; ensuring floors are clear of all debris, including bags, boxes, and potatoes.
• Conforms and adheres to all established company policies and procedures and government legislations pertaining to occupation health and safety.
• Other duties as assigned by the Production Supervisor or Machine Operator.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Be physically fit with the ability to lift and stack boxes up to 25lbs.
• Basic English language skills to read, understand and follow instructions and adhere to rules and regulations.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Must possess the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, using whole numbers/decimals and the ability to apply concepts of business math and statistics to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITIES:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram format. Must possess strong knowledge, understanding and experience in various problem-solving and participatory management techniques.

TECHNICIAL ABILITIES:

Must possess knowledge and experience in automated systems and terminology and the ability to develop and interpret related reports using ERP, spreadsheet, word processing and graphics software. Requires the ability to operate a variety of standard business machines, such as a computer and keyboard, a calculator, telephone, FAX, photocopier and so on.

SAFE QUALITY FOODS:

All staff are responsible to report food safety and quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.
In the event a key personnel responsible for this role is unavailable, an appropriately trained backup has been assigned to cover the duties to ensure the integrity of the SQF System.
